My soon to be 12 year old son, was in need of some new bedding (it seems we update his quite frequently as his room is where our beagle spends a lot of his time). Whatever the reason, I’m ALWAYS up for a room redo!
Anyone who knows me knows that a relaxed seaside style is my absolute favourite decorating style ( I bet you already know that though
, I guess my business name is a good hint lol!). Having just returned from a Florida vacation the beachy vibe was still very fresh in our minds. Erikson in particular had the most fun boogie boarding on Siesta Key beach, so I asked him what he would think of a “surfing” motif for his room….he loved the idea! Yay!
As I like to change things up so often, finding ways to do so without breaking the bank is an absolute must! I was able to give this room a fresh, surf side feel at under $120 and that includes new bedding, curtains AND new accessories… not bad, hey?! Here’s how I did it…
I love this great striped quilt set I found at Homesense for $39, it is a nice bright change from the dark grey and black plaid duvet cover that was there. I also changed out the black and white striped panels with these light and airy white set I picked up for $24 at Zellers.
LOVE these funky wall letters I found a Michaels for $2.25 each….
I added a little texture to the desk and dresser by cutting a beach mat ($1.50) in half…sweet!
Replaced the previous clocks with these clipboards I found at Dollarama for $1 each. I printed off some fun surfing graphics I found online, to add some colour…
Added some surfboard stickers found on clearance for .79 to brighten up the lampshade…
Some clear glass canisters from Dollerama a $2 each are great for holding legos, pencils, etc. I dressed them up a little by lining them with some fun scrapbook paper…
These letter hooks were also found at Michaels for $2.25 each. Love that you can spell out any word you like! They provide a great place for holding goggles, Karate gloves, etc.
I wasn’t able to find an actual surfboard (guess they don’t sell well in Newfoundland in April..lol!), but I came across these cute kick boards at Dollerama for $2 a piece. Grouping 3 together gives a surfboard feel and also adds a nice punch of Ocean blue. An added bonus is that since they are made of styrofoam they can do double duty as bulletin boards….so fun!
I had a lot of fun working on these simple updates for my son. He is thrilled with the results….and that makes me one very happy Mom!
PS: I’d love to know what you think of this budget room redo. Please leave your comments below..
