Don’t you just love updating the spaces? I sure do…I guess you could say it’s an occupational hazard
Of course, just because I’m in the mood to freshen things up a bit, does NOT mean I want to spend alot of $$ doing so! I usually like to keep the main areas of my home mostly neutral so by simply changing up the accessories with colours and patterns, I am easily and affordably able to create a new look.
My latest “room refresh” has occurred in our master bedroom. The previous duvet set was warm and rich chocolate brown with a paisley pattern. I had paired it with neutral taupes and ivories and some mixed metallic finishes…a lovely look for winter.
I love this look but was ready for something a little fresher for the upcoming spring season. As you can probably tell from my business name, my absolute favourite looks are those with a seaside or coastal feel. I absolutely adore the colour blue and anything with stripes. While away on a recent trip to the UK, I came across a navy and white striped duvet set and knew I just had to have it! Below are some tips on how I easily incorporated the duvet set with things I already had, to give my room a fresh new look, all on a shoestring budget
A new striped duvet cover injects some new colour and a fresh pattern into a previously neutral space. The ivory pillows are part of the previous brown set and the french script pillow was taken out of storage in my basement…
I changed up the existing silver round mirror over the bed with some rich wood frames that I already have for a stronger impact. The frames matting was a little more on the beige side than I wanted, so I simply turned them around on the “wrong”, but white, side. I even re-used some navy and white fabric I had displayed previously in my Family Room.
I reused the existing lamp bases and then purchased some basic white drum shades at Walmart ($14) and trimmed them with some simple navy blue ribbon. I just pinned the ribbon at the back so it can be easily removed when I want to change up the look. I found the cute blue and white plate on clearance ($3) and thought it would be perfect to hold accessories. The silver coral was on sale for $18 at Michaels and the indigo blue vase was found for $7. It adds a fun pop of colour!
The mirror that was previously over the bed, finds a new home over the chest of drawers…
So here’s the updated seaside-y look. I’m loving it and my husband (who adores boating), is loving it too!
Do you like to update things frequently? Have any tips you’d like to share? I’d love to hear all about it! Please leave a comment below…
Have a great day!
