Simply Style {Tablesetting}

The weather here has sure been frightful here over the past few days…snow in May :(

I’m going to avoid the urge the start Christmas decorating and instead have decided to embrace the warmer days ahead by bringing a little summer into my home.

One new addition is a great new set of  dishes (you can never have too many…right?!) I could not resist the beautiful pattern and turquoise colour! ❤  They really give me a fresh, summery seaside feel :)

I had so much creating this new table setting with them….here are a few pics:

I added some extra texture and pattern to the table by layering a circle rattan placemat with a striped, weaved rectangular one….

Using a combination of new dishes and placemats combined with things I already had, I was able to create a fun and interesting table….

These gorgeous blue bottles are actually solar lights that come on automatically when the room lighting is dimmed….at $5 each I was in love! :)

Do you enjoy setting a beautiful table as much as I do? Have any tips and tricks to share? We’d love to hear them…

Thanks for stopping by!

Surfs Up! Simple and Fun Tween room update…

My soon to be 12 year old son, was in need of some new bedding (it seems we update his quite frequently as his room is where our beagle spends a lot of his time). Whatever the reason, I’m ALWAYS up for a room redo!

Anyone who knows me knows that a relaxed seaside style is my absolute favourite decorating style ( I bet you already know that though ;) , I guess my business name is a good hint lol!). Having just returned from a Florida vacation the beachy vibe was still very fresh in our minds. Erikson in particular had the most fun boogie boarding on Siesta Key beach, so I asked him what he would think of a “surfing” motif for his room….he loved the idea! Yay!

As I like to change things up so often, finding ways to do so without breaking the bank is an absolute must! I was able to give this room a fresh, surf side feel at under $120 and that includes new bedding, curtains AND new accessories… not bad, hey?!  Here’s how I did it…

I love this great striped quilt set I found at Homesense for $39, it is a nice bright change from the dark grey and black plaid duvet cover that was there. I also changed out the black and white striped panels with these light and airy white set I picked up for $24 at Zellers.

LOVE these funky wall letters I found a Michaels for $2.25 each….

I added a little texture to the desk and dresser by cutting a beach mat ($1.50) in half…sweet!

Replaced the previous clocks with these clipboards I found at Dollarama for $1 each. I printed off some fun surfing graphics I found online, to add some colour…

Added some surfboard stickers found on clearance for .79 to brighten up the lampshade…

Some clear glass canisters from Dollerama a $2 each are great for holding legos, pencils, etc. I dressed them up a little by lining them with some fun scrapbook paper…

These letter hooks were also found at Michaels for $2.25 each. Love that you can spell out any word you like! They provide a great place for holding goggles, Karate gloves, etc.

I wasn’t able to find an actual surfboard (guess they don’t sell well in Newfoundland in April..lol!), but I came across these cute kick boards at Dollerama for $2 a piece. Grouping 3 together gives a surfboard feel and also adds a nice punch of Ocean blue. An added bonus is that since they are made of styrofoam they can do double duty as bulletin boards….so fun!

I had a lot of fun working on these simple updates for my son. He is thrilled with the results….and that makes me one very happy Mom! :)

PS:  I’d love to know what you think of this budget room redo. Please leave your comments below..
